Long-distance move from Dublin, CA to Dallas, TX

Super Helpful

They took really good care of me. I was so happy with their service from beginning to end. I would use them again. My belongings arrived on time too. That was an added bonus. We did not have to wait very long at all.

Long-distance move from Oakland, CA to Chicago, IL

Terrible experience in Oakland to Chicago move.

We have had a terrible experience with Upline, and even if you’ve paid a $50 deposit, I would seriously consider finding a different mover. The one positive about Upline is that the office staff is extremely friendly and responsive. The movers themselves are another story. In short, several of our things are broken irreparably, our TV stand was not (and cannot) be reassembled, a high-end wooden chair was damaged, our computer (shipped in manufacturer’s packaging) needed repair, and only half of our boxes and furniture were placed in their designated rooms, contrary to Upline’s marketing promises.

We hired Upline to move our one-bedroom apartment from Oakland, CA to Chicago, IL. We decided to pack our own boxes, and hired Upline to load our things, move them to Chicago, and unload. Upline promised that in Chicago, their movers would unwrap and reassemble furniture and unload boxes and furniture by placing them in whichever room we desired.

In Oakland, the foreman was great, but the movers were pretty roughly handling our stuff; I saw movers toss some of our boxes down the flight of stairs. The Oakland foreman would rein in the movers when he would see them roughly handling our things, but he was busy most of the time executing paperwork with me. So he missed a lot. It’s no surprise that this handling of our things resulted in a broken lamp and messed up the hardware in the computer that we shipped in manufacturer’s packaging.

One of the other egregious things I observed is with the loading/packing of our TV stand. I had loaded the cubbies of the TV stand with pillows and a lampshade and taped it off. The movers decided to unload the lampshade, and place it in the bottom of a new box. When I protested, the mover angrily dismissed me, assured me that the lampshade was fine, and then his colleague proceeded to load a laundry basked full of cleaning supplies on top of the lampshade and into the box. It’s no surprise that the lampshade arrived crushed.

The TV stand didn’t fare much better. The movers removed the shelves, but did not send the hardware for the shelves to Chicago. They also attempted to disassemble it, but failed, so they packed it with the frame loosely held together. On the Chicago end, the movers could not figure out how to tighten the frame again, and since there was no hardware for the shelves, they didn’t reinstall the shelves. Now, we can’t place a TV on the stand because it’s not sturdy, and we can’t even use as a bookshelf because there are no shelves.

One of our nicest pieces of furniture was also damaged because the movers did not bother to wrap the legs in a blanket. There is now a large gouge in that piece. These are just some of the highlights of the damage to our things; this is not comprehensive, but you get the idea.

On the Chicago end of our move, the foreman was extremely rude and tried to force me to sign to confirm that individual boxes and pieces of furniture had been delivered, without my seeing the item before signing. When I asked to see each piece before signing for it, he became angry and began to yell at me. I felt extremely uncomfortable.

The Chicago movers themselves (excluding the foreman) were extremely lovely and very carefully handled our furniture. The movers also apologized to me for the foreman’s behavior. The movers took great care reassembling furniture and made sure they didn’t damage anything in our building or unit. They began putting boxes and furniture in the designated rooms, but the foreman cleared them out when they were only half done. I didn’t even have a chance to tip them, so I left a generous tip with the foreman. Who knows if the movers received a cut.

In sum, moving is already stressful, and moving with Upline made things even worse.

Long-distance move from California to Colorado

Unprofessional.

I chose upline moving company because their quoted moving price was reasonable and my husband and I didn't see any negative reviews for their company. From the date of picking up our belongings to waiting more than a month for our moved items, we have found this company to be unprofessional.
The movers, and lead team member, first started haggling me over the moving price and stating that based upon my items, the price may change. It was a very uncomfortable situation and I felt, at the time, it should of been discussed with his supervisor and not myself. Mind you, an estimator came to our location, the day before moving, and estimated all the items. After they finally wrapped up our household goods, we expected the tentative date and arrival date, for our shipment, to be around the same time. That is what was presented to myself during the agreement phase. But they took an additional 2 weeks, window of 14 business days, to ship our belongings. It took 3 emails, 4 phone calls, just to get an estimated date of arrival.
Their customer service and dispatch were unresponsive.
I do not recommend this moving company. Lesson learned: pay the extra hundred dollars for expert movers!

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Moving with Upline.

I've heard good and bad stories about moving, mostly bad. So when my company told me that I'd need to find a mover to relocate to our TX branch, I knew there'd be some research involved. I did a Google search and Upline Moving seemed to have their name everywhere, so I checked their reviews on several sites and decided to give them a call. What was most important to me is that from the get to they were completely honest. They made me aware that I would likely be without my items for up to a couple of weeks but they did update me from time to time to let me know the status. The crew on both sides were fantastic and really worked hard to keep my items intact. Thanks Upline.

Long-distance move from Atherton, CA to Seattle, WA

Thoughtful, Good Service by Upline.

Upline won my job by promising that their movers worked for them and their trucks belong to them. Their bid was almost the lowest, and definitely reasonable. Their surveyor was intelligent and answered all questions clearly. The move itself went seamlessly; the truck got to Seattle only two days after I did. The driver was not a very clear communicator but he did provide good service and I was happy with the goods, all of which arrived at once. He even repaired a small injury to an item that was cracked. I was very happy with the professionalism, speed and excellent service provided by Upline and I give them my highest recommendation.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Professional moving experience but little more care be better.

Hi,
I recently moved from CA to TX thru Upline moving staff that I have interacted with(John, Jeff, George) were friendly, professional and accomodating. I had nice moving experience with them and would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to move long distance.
Only Cons I saw was - though I mentioned Fragile on box, they hardly cared and had put other heavy boxes on top of the fragile boxes coz of which few fragile items broke. None were very expensive, so I was ok. I suggest them to handle the fragile items boxes seperately with care. Hope my review helps. Thanks.

Very Unprofessional, Deceitful.

I had a very bad experience with this company. They were dishonest and deceitful in their every action. I am very disgusted with them and writing this review brings those horrible times I went through dealing with them. However I feel the obligation to warn others.

A sales person came to my home for an estimate and told me bunch of lies about this being a local business and he would be dedicated to resolve any issues. He pretty much disappeared after charging me for the first half. Every time I tried to reach them someone else answered after long waits on the phone by denying what the previous person said. Their customer support is on the other side of the continent.

Initial packing took 3 times my previous move took with another company with the same amount of goods. The packing crew included under aged children who don’t speak English. They charged me for closet boxes with hanger bars; however instead of hanging the clothes already on hangers they shoved them in those boxes and all of our most valued clothes are unwearable now. They left a pile of trash in front of my formal home in front of my neighbours eyes.

When the confirmed delivery day came they were nowhere to be found. Towards noon the dispatcher told me that the delivery would be delayed 2 more days. Without any prior warnings I struggled to find a place for my family.

During this whole experience they gave promises that they never kept and their tone got even ruder every time.

Local move within Hayward, CA

Last Minute Move.

Our apartment in Hayward flooded so the complex paid for movers to move us into a different building. They let us choose the mover after getting 3 estimates and we went with Upline. I felt like they were being the most realistic with me about how long the move could take and so I went with my gut. No regrets. All of our stuff got moved safely into our new unit and they even helped us rearrange the living room a few times before we were satisfied.

Long-distance move from Oakland, CA to Seattle, WA

Wouldn't hire if you paid me.

What an awful company to deal with. The sales person was initially professional and closed the deal, carefully taking inventory of everything in our home and providing an estimate (which was $4,000 higher than the other estimate by the way). The day the movers came went fairly well and they were decent about wearing masks and gloves. They came around 8am the first day and left pretty early (around 1pm). The next morning, they came at 8am, took quite a lot of long breaks and then finished (or so they thought) around 4pm. As I looked around our home, they had forgotten several drawers in the kitchen, a shelf of items in the kitchen, floor mats (which I had specifically already asked them to pack) and a laundry basket (which for some reason they moved to a far corner where I had placed cleaning supplies left over to clean the house when we left). They finished packing around 5:30 at which point the foreman (who was exhausted from a long day and ready to leave) wanted me to sign ~20 pages of documents without reading them from his ipad. He would tell me something, show me pages of tiny print and then bring up a big block of white for me to sign. When I told him I wanted to read it before signing it, he stood there basically tapping his toes while I tried to read the millimeter font. When I asked him if I could read it and sign it tomorrow once I'd had a chance to review, he called the initial salesman (Ethan) who proceeded to tell me that if I didn't sign it right then, they would unload everything from the truck back into our home. He then yelled at my husband on the phone when he tried to deal with it and finished by hanging up on him.

They gave us a 5 day window for delivery (which seems a bit crazy frankly given that we were moving our family 1500 miles during COVID) and told us they would let us know 2 days before the delivery what the date would be. Then, a few days into their window, they said it would probably be some time in the last few days but they would call us the day before to be sure (not enough time for us to get set up).

The day of delivery was almost comedically bad. They arrived at 12:30pm on the last day of their window with 5 people to help. The process was extremely slow, they didn't have protective equipment for our home, they brought a few used booties that wore out within an hour causing the movers to take their shoes off which didn't much help because they then just walked outside with their socks on and came back in the house. They also took forever, finishing the move at 10pm at night with several pieces of furniture not put back together and in the wrong place. In addition, the boxes were hardly labeled at the front end so 25% of them were placed in the wrong rooms which I had to move later. Lastly, the person who was running the move was incredibly rude, someone nearly dropped a dresser because it was too heavy for him and we kept some furniture in the basement because we were worried they wouldn't be able to bring it upstairs without breaking it. And, several of the guys were wearing masks around their necks or just on their mouths and didn't wear gloves.

During the course of the move, they completely broke my desk, a kids play table (which should be pretty durable!) and scratched a couch and dresser. Luckily I had purchased insurance separately and was able to get them partially reimbursed. They also caused $1K of damage to our stairwell and (even though the mover took pictures on the way out), they never contacted us about it and have been awful to deal with on the other end.

I would not work with this company again if someone paid me. Perhaps they would be fine for a smaller local move but for a larger move, they were completely awful and I deeply regret choosing them.

Long-distance move from South San Francisco, CA to Leander, TX

Lost our stuff and unethical in their claims process.

Used their services at the end of Aug for a move from SF to Austin. We were meticulous about labeling our boxes, keeping track of the contents in each box, and communicating with their staff about # of boxes and size.

Even then, Upline ended up losing 2 of our small boxes during the move with no explanation of where they might be. When they picked up our stuff in SF - they assured us that all the boxes scanned through and made it on the inventory checklist. Why have a box scanning and labeling system if you aren't able to track where the boxes ended up?

Of course one of the boxes contained our wedding frames and photos which is irreplaceable. The other box contained my old laptop as it's becoming very apparent that it's missing now since I've completely unpacked.

The only answer they could give me to where the boxes may have ended up is with another move. So our stuff is potentially with another client - how incredibly careless.

When we called in to file a claim and make a complaint - service was terrible. No follow ups and a complete disregard that our stuff was lost in the move. As of now we're still waiting for our claim to be processed which they're actually withholding until we take down our honest negative review which they say is in the contract we signed for the claim. I'm pretty sure language like that violates the FTC Consumer Review Fairness Act. Maybe that's why there's not a lot of negative reviews on them because they essentially threaten you with a cease and desist based on the shady provision they put into the contract silencing you.

If you're making a long distance move or any move for that matter - I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Unless you're prepared to lose your belongings and work with an incredibly unethical company.
